when the sun rises we are already through
it’s kind of refreshing to drink alone now
with only my shadow to ghost over the table

there are still your books on the many shelves
a forgotten shirt rumpled under the other pillow
some tickets stuck beneath the ID in my purse

I feel less entitled to be bitter with each day
sometimes old love songs still make me cry
but I know it was best to have cut ties before
any of us decided to fall in love for good

you are not a sociable type but I hoped against
hope for something better than just a hello bye
type of a relationship I think I invested way too much
in something you did not even bother to recognize

it’s better this way I am better off this way
you don’t have to feel something you are not
interested in even faking for your own profit

I am no more the girl I was at the beginning of this journey
and perhaps that’s why nothing came out of this in the end
